TSSA Calls on TUI to Think Again

TSSA the union for the travel trade called today for TUI to rethink its decision to close its Cardonald call centre with the loss of 450 jobs.

TUI’s decision to pull out of Cardonald by 12th December came out of the blue and has shocked many of its loyal and dedicated workforce.

TSSA Senior Organiser for Scotland, Tom Kennedy, said that "TSSA would do all it could to help its members at this worrying time and called on the company to sit down with the union and enter into meaningful discussions to try to keep the work at Cardonald. This is the least the staff deserve - if the company’s case for closure does not stand up to scrutiny then it should rethink its position. "

“It is unfortunate to say the least that the company chose to make this announcement before it had even commenced consultation with those employees who it intends to make redundant. TUI are legally required to consult with a view to agreeing ways of avoiding or reducing the dismissals. It’s as plain as the nose on your face that the decision to close the call centre has already been made and that any discussions that now take place are likely to be of little consequence, although we sincerely hope that this does not prove to be the case.”
