London Faces 3000 Transport Job Losses
After London Underground announced 1,000 job losses, Transport for London warned unions of a £2.4 billion cut in its tranport budget.
Union general secretary Gerry Doherty warned that 2,000 jobs were at risk at TfL because of the budget cuts.
After a meeting between the three rail unions and TfL, he said:
"They refused to give us any jobs figures but we fear that as many as 2,000 jobs are at risk with cuts of this size.
"This is a real body blow for staff and Londoners coming on top of the 1,000 jobs already announced at LU.
"This is a direct result of budget cuts introduced by the Mayor. Londoners voted for Boris and they are now paying the price with huge job losses and poorer services.
"We shall defend services and oppose any compulsory redundancies with every weapon at our disposal."
