Details of the payment arrangement etc. applying on each of the days concerned during the Christmas period are appended to this circular. Appendix A England, appendix B Scotland and appendix C for restructured staff groups.

Where practicable, the additional day’s leave Annual Leave granted in the 1984 pay award will be rostered as appropriate during the Christmas/New Year period.

So far as Headquarters offices etc in England are concerned, it is not intended to close the offices for the whole period between Christmas and New Year. However, you will be aware that the additional day’s leave granted in the 1984 pay award should, wherever practicable, be taken in this period.

In addition, local agreement will be sought for the additional day’s leave granted in the 1982 pay award, to be taken during the Christmas/New Year period in accordance with the understanding reached in correspondence in 1983 i.e. on the basis of a minimum cost solution.

Restructured staff will be paid in accordance with the relevant agreement, i.e. they will receive enhancements for working on the actual festival days specified in their restructuring agreement only. Staff rostered to work on these days but not required would need to allocate a day’s annual leave.
