London Underground Company news

Deal or no deal?

We always knew that London Underground are not to be trusted but they have reached a new low.

The pay deal we agreed last month includes a commitment to a Joint Working Party (JWP) to look at improvements in medical redeployment arrangements for all grades.

LUL called all unions to ACAS on Monday 09 November 2009 to discuss a new proposal over medical redeployment. After hours of waiting around, TSSA were presented with a “final” offer to guarantee CSA jobs for 25 train operators per year. There was no mention of guarantees for other operational staff, just train operators!

It appears as though one of the unions representing drivers has done a back room deal with management at the expense of the other grades. The new proposal means that, while TSSA members cannot get transfers to their preferred work location or gain promotional jobs due to “financial restrictions”, train operators can have CSA jobs reserved exclusively for them.

We do not begrudge any improvement in conditions of service for train operators. But, we demand parity over medical redeployment for all grades not a special deal for one.

True lies

How many times have you heard of a union going into talks at ACAS with a firm agreement and leaving with a dispute? That is the total lack of professionalism we are dealing with at LUL.

Why have LUL decided to privilege drivers and give a kick in the teeth to other staff?

Are LUL prepared to risk the effective running of the railway just to divide the unions? Is this a professional attitude?

How can we ever believe that LUL will negotiate in good faith?

They have lied to TSSA Officials, lied to our Reps, and lied to members by going back on our pay deal in such a disgraceful manner.

We won’t take this lying down!
