LUL in backhanded pay deal
This year’s final pay offer applied to all of the trades unions and their respective members. Part of the offer was a joint working party for the purpose of seeking to address issues faced with medical re-deployment. Throughout the pay talks, LUL repeatedly stated that they would not improve on any of the terms within the offer, it was their final proposal and would not in any circumstance broker a deal that was separate, with any of the unions. The harsh reality is, to the detriment of TSSA members, LUL have now done a back handed deal outside of the bargaining machinery with one of our sister unions.
TSSA now likely to go into dispute over medical re-deployment As you know, TSSA so far, is the only union to settle on the pay deal and the fact is, LUL have now reneged on part of our agreement specific to medical re-deployment. As a consequence of this, TSSA is now considering going into formal dispute on behalf of operational grades in this regard.
It beggars belief, that LUL seen fit to leave your TSSA organisers isolated in a room, separate to both them and the RMT for over 10 hours and yet, referred to the talks as a joint working party. ASLEF and Unite did not attend. TSSA sought parity with the drivers’ agreement but LUL would not concede. It is in TSSA’s opinion, that LUL were inept in handling the ACAS talks, were disingenuous and could not provide all information and data we requested in relation to medical dismissals and re-deployment within all grades.
At the close of talks, ACAS on LUL’s behalf said that they would in principle consider a mirror proposal within operations’ grades but could not define who those grade groups were and agree any detail in the absence of data. As there was a contradiction in terms with some of what was conveyed, TSSA pressed them further to table a proposal and to summarise their position in writing. LUL shied away from this and then issued a statement. They falsely referred to it as a joint statement agreed between the parties. Yet again, another untruth which was not agreed to by TSSA. LUL then walked out of those talks ahead of TSSA making further representations for them to correct their story.
Have your say; it is now over to you!
TSSA will be calling a meeting with your functional council representatives to provide them with more detail and to consider what actions we now take. Please ensure that you speak with your reps for updates and to have your say. It is important we hear from them your views before deciding our course of action. Another meeting will be held at ACAS.
