Railway Pensions

The valuations of the various sections of the Railway Pension Scheme were finalised late last year with the results showing around two thirds of sections reporting short falls, much higher than at the last evaluation in 2001.

At its January meeting, the Association’s Executive Committee endorsed our participation in a joint union campaign (with Amicus, ASLEF and RMT) in defence of the Railway Pension Scheme. Amongst other things the campaign will be calling for the level of employee contributions to be restricted to an affordable level (10.56%) to provide for a good package of benefits. It will also put forward the case for the Railway Pension Scheme to be restructured and rationalised to have only three active sections (a Train Operating Section, an Infrastructure & Engineering Section and an Omnibus Section).
