Back to Work Bonus
A tax free lump sum of between £5 and £1000, for people moving off benefits and into work.
Available if you have been out of work for three months or more, receiving either Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Income Support (IS) whilst having some part-time earnings taken into account when your benefit rate was set. Claims must be made within 12 weeks of leaving benefit.
Note: the bonus is being phased out from 25th October 2004 with any amounts built up being frozen until 28th January 2005 but lost if you do not satisfy the conditions for claiming by this date.
