Background - Women in Focus

Women In Focus has made real progress in ensuring that TSSA continues to grow. However, the following figures highlight the need for us to continue to invest adequate resources to build sustainable activity of women throughout the movement. Bear in mind that 31% of our members are women.

Reps

The overall total number of women who held a TSSA representative post in 2002 was 20.9%.

  • 23% of our Company/Divisional Council reps are women
  • 21% of our local reps are women
  • 20% of our local health and safety reps are women
  • 23% of our Pensions Trustees/Committee members are women
  • 31% of our members are women

Branches

The overall total number of women elected as TSSA Branch officers in 2002 was 18.8%.

  • 8% of our branches have a woman Chair
  • 20% of our branches have a woman Correspondence Secretary
  • 19% of our branches have a woman Financial Secretary
  • 26% of our branches have a woman Organising Secretary
  • 19% of our 2002 Annual Conference delegates were women
  • 31% of our members are women

Campaigns and activities, past and present

WiF knits up support for Oxfam campaign

Calling all members of WiF and supporters who can knit or crochet. Use up old wool and do something useful while sitting in front of the TV or relaxing in your garden chair or on the beach this summer!

WiF Celebrates 10 Years of Activity

Ten years of activity of TSSA’s Women in Focus (WiF) will be celebrated on Monday 9 June at Portcullis House (part of the House of Commons), in the company of Harriet Harman MP, deputy leader of the Labour Party. This event has been cancelled because of logistical problems.

Charter for Women - First Conference

The Charter for Women Steering group has decided to hold its first conference on 15 October 2005 at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, West Midlands.
