2011 Band D Pay Award

27 January 2011

TSSA met Southern recently to discuss the 2011 pay award for Band D grades. We raised the fact that this group of grades had not received as high a percentage award as the frontline employees in 2010.

We drew to Southern’s attention that the work carried out by Band D grades is crucial to the smooth and efficient operation of the company. Additionally after the redundancies in 2010 there were substantial productivity gains from the Band D grades by Southern.

Southern have made their final offer of the following with an overall pot of 3% which will allocated as per the performance rating for 2009-10 and by the department worked in. Therefore the increase are as follows:

| Department/Directorate | Ratings | | | |
| | A | B | C | D |
| Development | 4.44% | 3.70% | 2.96% | 0.00% |
| Finance & contracts | 3.65% | 3.04% | 2.43% | 0.00% |
| Fleet | 4.43% | 3.69% | 2.96% | 0.00% |
| Franchise Improvement | 3.97% | 3.31% | 2.65% | 0.00% |
| Human Resources | 4.01% | 3.34% | 2.67% | 0.00% |
| Safety & Ops Standards | 4.47% | 3.72% | 2.98% | 0.00% |
| Service Delivery | 4.38% | 3.65% | 2.92% | 0.00% |
| Southern Overall | 4.28% | 3.56% | 2.85% | 0.00% |
| Percentage of Band D’s | 13% | 40% | 40% | 7% |

The TSSA opposes to performance related pay on principal, but this was in place before we regained collective bargaining for Band D grades.

The TSSA drew to the attention of Southern that we believed that the 3% would fall under members aspirations, and that we wished to meet with them to discuss further improvements to Band D terms and conditions. That meeting is in the process of being arranged.
