2019 Rates of Pay & Conditions of Service discussions

"Here we go again!"

 As you are aware, we are currently in the process of attempting to negotiate an acceptable pay offer on behalf our members within Arriva Rail North (Northern).
Despite assurances from last years pay talks that all parties would endeavour to reach an amicable result in time for the pay anniversary date of April, here we are almost in July and we are no way near reaching an agreement.
The latest pay meeting was held on Monday 17th June where the company proposed an offer as follows
1, From the 06th April 2019 a 2.1% increase to rates of pay.

2, From the 06th October 2019 a 0.4% increase to rates of pay.

3, Those on the lowest salaries to receive a lump sum payment of £475:00 or whichever the greater.

4, An increase in Maternity Entitlement to reflect what has been agreed with Transpennine i.e. 9 months at full pay or the equivalent in Average Earnings.

5, An increase in Paternity Entitlement up to 3 weeks, with 2 weeks at Full Pay and 1 week at Statutory Pay.

This offer falls well short of our members expectations, is below inflation and is considerably lower than pay awards offered to other grades within the franchise.
As a result the General Secretary has today written to the company making it quite clear that unless our members are given a copper bottomed guarantee that they will not suffer a pay cut by having a below inflation rise nor be treated any less favourably than other grades within the company, by next Friday (28th June) this union will be in dispute.
This is a view shared by our sister unions the RMT and Unite.
