C.I.E Welfare Scheme

30 November 2012

The TSSA along with the other unions meet with CIE and the subsidy companies Friday 30 November on the Welfare scheme issue.

It was confirmed that the 1 January as a date of implementation has been removed. We welcome that the attempt to arbitrarily impose amendments on the scheme has been removed.
The TSSA along with the other unions made our position clear that it is our view that the welfare scheme makes up a core component of your conditions of service and is not something to be just handed away. We do not see the merits or fairness in the proposals from the C.I.E group that looks to punish workers if they are unfortunate to fall ill or get injured and it certainly does not take consideration of the nature of the transport industry that puts workers at the threat of injury and illness.
CIE and the subsidy companies continue to state that it is their view that in the current financial environment that the scheme is too costly. CIE and the subsidy companies have said that they would take on board the unions position and re look at their proposal and come back to the unions with further information on this particular issue in December.
All Unions will be meeting with the C.I.E. group again on Monday 17 December 2012 on this issue.
We will keep members up dated on this issue going forward.
