Sale of First London Buses – what happens next?

9 April 2013

First have agreed to sell most of their London Bus operations. At this point, detail is sketchy but TSSA has sought early engagement with management to protect the interests of our members.

TUPE transfers?

It is likely that the majority of staff will transfer to a new employer under the Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment Regulations (TUPE).

We have sought confirmation that TUPE will apply in this case. If so, this means that you will have some protection of your terms and conditions. However, the new employer can resist certain terms transferring and cite “measures” which will affect your employment post-transfer.

TSSA is expert in dealing with TUPE transfers. Indeed, we are probably the most experienced Union in the Country at protecting workers rights in similar situations.

First have committed to early talks with TSSA and you can be sure that we will do our utmost to defend your rights.

We are there for you!

We have requested detailed information from First regarding the sale and potential TUPE transfers. This includes details of what intentions the purchasers have in respect of the transferring staff.

And, of course, what happens to those staff who may not transfer across?

We will be holding a series of meetings covering all affected workplaces to listen to your concerns and provide support to our members. Please look out for notification of your nearest meeting as times and dates are arranged.

In the meantime, if you require any help or advice, please contact your TSSA Company Council Rep:
