TSSA to ballot for industrial action at London Underground

29 May 2015

TSSA has today formally registered a dispute with London Underground over pay, terms & conditions, Night Tube and a failure by LU to negotiate meaningfully on changes to working practices.

In detail, the basis of the dispute is as follows:

LUL has offered a below inflation pay rise for 2015-16, and a pitiful one-off payment for Night Tube. They are demanding a ‘no strike’ deal for the length of the pay deal (2 years), and a block on any further ‘economic claims’ by the trades unions during that period.

Night Tube

LUL has insisted upon linking the annual pay deal to an agreement on pay arrangements for Night Tube, and has failed to negotiatiate meaningfully regarding proposed changes to working practices linked directly to Night tube. LUL is also refusing to consult meaningfully regarding the H&S aspects of Night Tube.

Collective Bargaining

LUL has failed to negotiate meaningfully with TSSA in regard to pay, Night Tube and Fit for the Future Stations (FFTFS). Management are not adhering to the spirit and letter of the Machinery of negotiations, and are attempting to make changes to existing Framework Agreements and working practices without due process and negotiation.

Fit for the Future Stations

TSSA remains in dispute with LUL regarding their proposals to cut jobs and close ticket offices, and it is our view that LUL has not honoured commitments that it made last year at ACAS regarding FFTFS.

Alongside the three other recognised unions in LUL - ASLEF, RMT and Unite - TSSA will shortly be balloting ALL members in LUL for industrial action on the basis of: pay, terms and conditions, failure to negotiate on changes to working practices, and failure to honour the machinery of negotiation and agreements in regard to pay, Night Tube and FFTFS. If unchallenged, LUL will heighten their attacks and fundamentally undermine the terms, conditions and working practices of ALL LUL staff. We must stand together.

We will provide you with more information on Monday, 1 June. If you have any queries, please contact your local TSSA rep or contact the TSSA Helpdesk on 0800 328 2673 and they will refer you on to an appropriate contact.
