Health and Safety Reps Elections

25 September 2014

Elections are now taking place for all TSSA health and safety rep positions within Virgin Trains including those at company level.

This means that all existing TSSA health and safety reps’ terms of office will end on 30th October 2014. Existing reps are encouraged to stand again if they wish to continue as reps.

Health and safety reps make a real difference to health and safety in the workplace. For example, workplaces with union health and safety reps have half the major injuries compared with workplaces without health and safety reps! If you want to see real change in your workplace, and want to play a part in bringing about that change, if you’ve got what it takes to make a difference, then become a TSSA health and safety rep! TSSA provides full training for this vital role, for which the company will release you from your normal duties whilst paying your usual salary.

Nominations are invited for local health and safety reps as shown below. Those elected will be TSSA reps for 3 years, from 31st October 2014 until 31st October 2017.

Any TSSA member wishing to stand for election must complete and return an official TSSA nomination form. These are available from the TSSA Helpdesk by email: or phone: 0800 328 2673

To be eligible to stand for election, you will need to be a TSSA member, and to get six TSSA members to support your nomination. The completed nomination form must be returned by noon on 20 October 2014. Further information is enclosed with the nomination form.

Nominations are also invited for two TSSA health and safety reps on the Virgin West Coast Joint Safety Committee. These reps will attend meetings with senior management, representing all TSSA members across the company. Needless to say, this is a crucial role, giving you and your colleagues a voice in strategic decision making on health and safety matters. Again, those elected will be TSSA reps for 3 years, from 31st October 2014 until 31st October 2017.

If you want to know more about what being a TSSA health and safety rep involves, phone the TSSA Helpdesk on 0800 328 2673, or ask your current TSSA reps.
