Actions speak louder than words when Grayling hands out rail contracts

4 July 2018

In response to reports that Chinese company Guangshen Railway Co, an arm of the Chinese state rail company, and MTR, which runs Hong Kong’s rail network, are on course to win the lucrative High Speed 2 contract.

TSSA’s general secretary Manuel Cortes said:

“Arch-Breexiteer and Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling promised we would take back control. However, in his day job he is busy handing out the keys to vital parts of our country's infrastructure to any state but our own.

“Taxpayers will spend billions to build the 21st Century railways our economy and passengers so badly need. It’s ludicrous, completely ludicrous, to then hand it over to the Chinese.

“We should be proudly running our own train services to benefit those who use them rather than to generate profits for foreign governments.”
