Amey Consulting rail: Call for Health & Safety Reps

28 January 2011

Join with TSSA to improve Health and Safety where you Work!

TSSA members can make work safer and healthier by working together, and getting involved.

We go to work to earn a living, and expect to get home at the end of the day in one piece! Yet all too often employers expose us to unnecessary risks and hazards. As a result, accidents occur and health is compromised. Many TSSA members work in hazardous environments, for example on railway tracks where trains are running, or having to Lone work. Health often suffers because workers are subject to stress, long hours, bullying or excessive/unrealistic workloads.

TSSA members can make work safer and healthier by working together, and getting involved.

So what can you do?

Why not become a TSSA Health and Safety rep!

Health and Safety reps make a real difference to Health and Safety in the workplace. Workplaces with union Health and Safety reps have been proven to have 50% less major injuries compared with workplaces without Health and Safety reps! If you want to see real change in your workplace, and want to play a part in bringing about that change, if you’ve got what it takes to make a difference, then become a TSSA Health and Safety rep! TSSA provides full training for this vital role, for which the company will release you from your normal duties whilst paying your usual salary.

Elections are now taking place for Health and Safety reps. Nominations are therefore invited for Health and Safety reps, and those elected will be TSSA reps for 3 years from the date of their appointment.
Any TSSA member wishing to stand for election must complete and return an official TSSA nomination form. Please download a copy here.

To be eligible to stand for election, you will need to be a TSSA member, and to get six TSSA members to support your nomination. The completed nomination form must be returned to us by noon on 28 February 2011.

Those elected may also be invited to attend a major event in April 2011, when company level Health and Safety reps will come together with senior managers from the rail industry, along with railway safety inspectors from the Health and Safety enforcement organisation the Office of Rail Regulation.
