Amey: Pay Dispute

9 August 2012

Industrial Action ballot will open on Tuesday 14 August and end Tuesday 4 September make sure you vote Yes, Yes.

Ballot opening

As per our last circular Members have rejected the pay offer and expressed their desire to be balloted for industrial action on this and other related issues: http://www.tssa.org.uk/en/Your-union/Your-company/company-pages/amey/index.cfm/ameypaydispuet2012a

7 days’ Notice of our intention to ballot members within Amey has been sent to the company to allow our Industrial action Ballot to open on Tuesday 14 August and close at noon on Tuesday 4 September. It will be a purely postal ballot conducted by the Electoral reform services so you should expect to receive your ballot form some time next week.

It is important that we send a strong message to the company at the end of the ballot period we will be required to send Amey the outcome of the ballot both in terms of how people have voted and how many people voted.

Therefore it is important that you use your vote and vote Yes for Strike action and Yes for action short of strike, whilst it is important to be prepared to follow through on your vote the stronger the support we have for Yes, Yes the stronger negotiating position that we will have in talks with the company.

What am I being balloted for?

The wording on the ballot paper will be as follows:

A trade dispute exists between TSSA and Amey Consulting\Inter Urban. This relates to:

  • A derisory pay offer for the year 2012
  • The lack of progress on widening collective bargaining across all areas of Amey’s Rail business
  • Lack of progress on resolving issues around staff allowances from our 2012 pay claim

You will then be asked 2 questions around whether you are prepared to vote to take part in strike action and whether you are prepared to take action short of strike. The more people who vote yes to both questions the stronger our position.

Who will be balloted?

In Amey Consulting All members within grades A-C and some Band D grades who retain their collective bargaining rights from before 2011.

In Amey Inter Urban all of our members will be balloted

What if I don’t receive a ballot form?

If you don’t receive your ballot form by Saturday 18 August then please contact our member’s helpdesk on 0800 328 2673 or email helpdesk@tssa.org.uk

Please have either your membership number or National insurance number to hand and also advise us what your current address is in case this is the reason for non-receipt.

What else can I do?

You are the union and the more of you there are in membership the stronger we are, we have come a long way in the last few years but we can achieve more with your help.

If you can agree to recruit 1 non-member in the next 10 days it will add to our strength. Joining is easy and can now be done on line at:

Winning collective bargaining for all in rail will enable us to achieve so much more such as fairness and equality for all but this won’t be easy and in order to do it we need your assistance in providing us with information, please spend some time completing our anonymous Equal Pay survey:
