Appeal for Union Learning Representatives

8 December 2010

Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) help change lives. They work to support their work colleagues in finding and accessing learning opportunities. They promote learning and training within their employer and their workplace. They negotiate course provision with local colleges, universities and others.

TSSA is on the look-out for members at National Express East Anglia who want a fresh challenge, to help others and make their workplace a fairer, better trained and more successful place. We already have one excellent ULR, Sharon McIntosh at Liverpool Street, but we are appealing for others who wish to join Sharon in taking forward this exciting and rewarding area of TSSA’s work. In particular, we are on the look-out for ULRs to cover the following lines / areas:

- Norwich – Colchester – Chelmsford
- Kings Lynn – Cambridge – Stansted Airport

Every ULR receives paid release from NXEA for TSSA’s intitial thorough training, and afterwards regular paid release for carrying out their ULR responsibilities.

If you are interested in taking up this opportunity then please contact George Woods, TSSA Learning Organiser, for an informal chat about the role. He will provide you with more information and a ULR job description. Email him] or call 07894 586904.

How do you become a Union Learning Rep?

If you want to stand as a ULR, initially for a period up to the end of 2011:
- Fill in the Reps Nomination Form and send it back to George Woods [FREEPOST NW 2409 – London North, Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association, Walkden House, 10 Melton Street, London NW1 1YA – no stamp required] by Tuesday 4th January 2011 setting out which vacancy you are standing for
- If only one person applies for any vacancy then that person will be automatically elected and will be advised of the next steps – including meeting the Lead ULR and going on the Intro training courses
- If we receive more than two applications then an election will be held for that location and you will be advised of the situation.
