Audit Scotland release on Scotland's ferries

18 October 2017

Commenting on today's call from Audit Scotland for Transport Scotland to develop a long-term strategy to assure the solid future of Scotland's ferry services, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes said,

"Today's call from Audit Scotland is a vindication of TSSA's campaign to ensure Scotland's CalMac ferry services stay in public ownership and that NorthLink services are also brought back into public ownership at the earliest possible opportunity. And I'm glad to to see the auditors stress the need to measure the social and economic benefits, rather than mere cost-benefits, of what are frankly life line services for the Highlands and Islands.

"Of course investing in Scotland's infrastructure requires long-term strategic planning. Shame on Transport Scotland for needing such a basic lesson from the auditors. I hope Transport Minister, Humza Yousaf, will finally heed the wise words coming from Audit Scotland and ensure all of Scotland's ferries are invested in and properly future-proofed as they are all a very real social need."
