Balfour Beatty Rail Decentralisation Reorganisation

As part of the consultation process TSSA and the Company Council met the company recently to discuss proposals on the reorganisation to decentralise parts of the renewals business.

 

The company emphasised the Balfour Beatty parent group had issued a profits warning and the group were asking for savings to be made. In addition, Network Rail wants to reduce renewals work costs. TSSA reminded the company that our members had seen staff reductions in recent years and were contributing effectively to the productivity of the business on current staffing levels.

The company’s proposal will align the Labour Team, Electrification Team, Signalling Team and Rostering Team who will be transferred to the delivery depots at Eastleigh, Ipswich and Tonbridge.

The overall impact will result in a reduction of nine positions. Following discussions on the proposed reductions, the company agreed look again at the need to eliminate one of the posts – namely that of the Welding Co-ordinator.

We emphasised our strong opposition to achieving reductions by means of compulsory redundancy and that we expected displaced employees to be offered jobs in vacant positions and/or those where agency staff are currently engaged.
