Bus Eireann Pay claim update

28 June 2018

TSSA meet with the company this week to start talks for a long overdue pay award.

We reminded the company of the lack of a pay award since 2008 and also the significant contribution staff have made since then and in particular as a result of the labour court agreement last year and the cost containment agreement prior to that.

We illustrated that colleagues in Dublin Bus & Iarnród Éireann have received a pay award and we are currently awaiting a labour court decision on a pay claim for members in the CIE holding company. It would be grossly unfair if Bus Eireann continues to ignore our pay claim while colleagues in the other CIE companies have been awarded an increase.

Our claim was for a no strings attached pay ward to be applied to all members in Bus Eireann. We also claimed that it should reflect what has been awarded in the other CIE companies.

We meet on a grade by grade basis, except for the executive grade as we still await a date for a meeting. At the grade by grade meetings we raised the various issues that face the particular grades.

The company stated that they are still facing financial issues and that any pay award would have to be self-financing. We believe the previous ten years of shouldering the pain of no pay increase and ensuring that Bus Eireann continued to run so well in the most difficult of times is sufficient enough to warrant a fair and reasonable pay award.

The company has taken away our concerns and have given a commitment to write back to us with a formal response. Once we have a response from the company we will share with the members.
