Booking offices are crucial to any review of rail fares

8 May 2018

Responding to the news that a review of ticket pricing is needed after rail bosses admit that splitting tickets is cheaper and the system is 'frustrating'.

General Secretary of TSSA union, Manuel Cortes said:

"Rail ticket pricing is so complicated that even rocket scientists intending to travel between London and Edinburgh will really struggle to find the cheapest offer. Thankfully, our members who are fully trained booking office clerks do it for passengers.

"However, greedy privateers are cutting down on booking offices - many are already closed - as confusion boosts their profits and far too many passengers are needlessly buying expensive tickets.

"These train robber barons are rip off merchants who don't give a jot for our travelling public. The moral of this story is to always buy your tickets from a booking office."
