Boris the Fares Burglar

13 December 2011

Thousands of "Burglar Boris" postcards were handed out at London Tube stations this morning in protest at big increases in tube and bus fares over the past four years.

The London Mayor is shown as a cat burglar by rail unions and green campaigners who are arguing that tube travellers will face inflation busting increases for the next four years if he wins re-election next May.

Together for Transport, the campaigning group, says that a single bus fare in the capital has increased by 50% since 2008 and a weekly 1-6 zone travel card has gone up more than 20%.

Manuel Cortes, leader of the TSSA rail union, said:
"The question that working families have to ask themselves is: "Can we afford another four years of Boris. Fares have risen dramtically while the quality of service has equally gone down dramitcally over the past four years."
