Bus Eireann strike update

14 May 2013

The strike action at Bus Eireann has grounded 95% of the company's fleet for the last two days. We are currently balloting our members and that concludes Thursday 16 May.

TSSA members in Bus Eireann have shown great courage and solidarity by refusing to pass picket lines.

TSSA along with the other unions have accepted an invitation from the Labour Relations Commission to enter talks over the current strike action at Bus Eireann.
The talks will take place without any preconditions on either party.

For the talks to progress the below was agreed with the Labour Relations Commission

The commission is clear that both parties are committed to an intensive process of engagement in an attempt to find on savings to the level set out in Labour Court Recommendations LRC 20463, whilst acknowledging the Unions side rejection of that Recommendation.

The commission believes, it is essential that this engagement takes place in an environment of conducive and constructive dialogue. To that end the Commission has asked the Company to suspend the implementation of the Court Recommendation for a period of 48 hours and that the NBRU agree to suspend its industrial action for the same period

The Bus Eireann national negotiating team will now enter into talks with a view of trying to find a way forward.

This dispute does have the potential to escalate across the CIE group. We will be contacting reps across the CIE group of companies to liaise as this issue progresses.
