Bus √Čireann strike update - day 19

11 April 2017

The Bus √Čireann strike enters it's 19th day today after talks between unions and the company at the Workplace Relationship Committee (WRC) collapsed without resolution at 4.30am this morning.

The WRC have recommended the dispute now be moved to the Labour Court, hopefully before Good Friday. TSSA representatives will meet later today to formulate our submission to the court.

Said TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes,

"We hope the Labour Court will succeed where the WRC, through no fault of their own, Unions put forward a plan which would make savings of over €18 million but the company remain intransigent and clearly do not want a brokered compromise.

"They are addicted to the ideology of the economic madhouse and would rather keep bus services off the roads at a cost by their estimate of €500,000 a day - that's nearly €10m so far this strike - than do the right thing by their company, by their workforce who want to work and by passengers and the economy - especially in rural Ireland - whom Bus Éireann exists to support but on which they have not been able to travel for nearly three weeks now."
