C2C Retail Staff - 2019 Final Pay offer

A "final" pay offer has been received following recent wage negotiations on behalf of members employed in retail.

As in previous years TSSA sought an above inflation increase to basic salaries and associated allowances alongside our fundamental aim to achieve a reduction of hours in the working week. Additionally, your representatives pursued other improvements to general terms and conditions of employment including a review of family friendly policies and a commitment to prioritise our union’s equality agenda.

Final pay offer

A gloomy scene was set from the outset with C2C placing cards on the table describing some challenges the company now faces. C2C is currently operating against some serious financial losses. Revenue has taken a hit with fixed industry costs outweighing revenue income and everyone is all too aware of the ongoing difficulties experienced following the introduction of PICO. There has been a spike in customer complaints resulting from technical difficulties experienced leading to ticketing problems and lengthy queuing times. Of course, frontline staff continue do deal with these problems in the cold face of customer complaints day-to-day. Having set the scene C2C’s ‘final’ pay offer is as follows:

1) 3% increase to basic salary and dynamic allowances with effect from 1st July 2019;
2) A reduction in weekly working hours from 37 to 35 hrs with effect from January 2020 subject to mutual agreement over rosters;
3) A commitment to form an equalities committee from January 2020 with terms of reference to be agreed in 2019.

What Next?

Your negotiating reps recommend your acceptance of this final offer. Whilst, other improvements to terms and conditions may not have been gained, this final offer does take account of a guaranteed reduction in working hours (subject to rosters being agreed), which works toward our union’s aim of achieving an improved work-life balance for members. The pay increase meets with rate of inflation and it is welcomed C2C commit to setting up an equality forum with TSSA’s input. A review of all other polices is currently underway.

During the up and coming months talks are being scheduled to look at proposed changes the company would seemingly like to introduce following a stations review. With all this in mind it is your rep’s strong view the pay offer should be accepted. This will then enable your reps to meaningfully engage in consultation connected to any future changes impacting upon retail staff.

If, you are minded to disputing the final offer, regardless of the recommendation, you must notify your reps at the earliest opportunity and by no later than Friday 9 August. Unless a majority of members state their rejection, it will be accepted on your behalf. You will be notified of the outcome and when salaries can expect to be adjusted to take account of the pay increase.
