Call for Expressions of Interest

18 August 2011

Expressions of Interest are invited for the position of General Secretary of the TSSA.

We wish to inform Branches that Gerry Doherty, General Secretary, has announced that he will retire later this year. A successor must therefore be elected.

In accordance with the Association’s procedure, prospective nominees for the General Secretary’s position for the next 5 year period are invited to indicate their interest by sending details of their name, branch and date of joining the Association to Pat Pavlou, General Secretary’s Office, at Walkden House in an envelope marked personal by no later than Friday 30th September 2011

No member of the Association is eligible to be nominated as a candidate for the above position unless they have been a member of the Association for a minimum period of three years on the date of closure of receipt of nominations, which will be on 30th September 2011. Neither are members whose subscriptions to the Association are 12 weeks or more in arrears, retired members, superannuated members, special rate retired members, student members and honorary members eligible for nomination as General Secretary.

The names of all eligible prospective nominees received in accordance with the terms of this Circular, will be listed as an Appendix to the subsequent Circular calling for nominations for the post of General Secretary. These additional arrangements are not in any way part of the Branch nominating procedure and all such letters of declaration of intent will not be considered by the Association’s Scrutineers as a letter of acceptance of a Branch nomination. Neither do these additional arrangements preclude any Branch nominating candidates, or any eligible members accepting nominations, whose names are not on the list of those declaring their prior interest in being considered.

The Executive Committee have yet to agree the timetable for the election of General Secretary but the term of office will be 5 years and the timetable will be published with the Circular calling for nominations.
