Cortes condemns latest poor performance from ScotRail; demands government end franchise now

30 August 2018

Manuel Cortes today reacted to news that ScotRail’s performance has fallen to its worst since Abellio took over and demanded the SNP Government end the franchise now.

Cortes said, “Abellio have been given chance after chance. Their performance is at a record low despite the much-vaunted improvement plans. With over half of the trains arriving at Glasgow Queen Street getting there late, Scottish commuters must be bracing themselves for yet another Autumn and Winter of discontent.

“It’s particularly galling that this news comes just one week after Michael Matheson announced the Abellio were going to be able to keep the franchise until week. That’s seven more years of misery for Scottish commuters.

“TSSA has long campaigned for ScotRail to be taken into public ownership. We know the Scottish people are with us on this. Matheson should be using his powers to operate the break clause in Abellio’s contract.”

“We believe that the Scottish people are with us on this. We will launch a new petition next week to demonstrate support for public ownership of ScotRail. We call on MSPs in the Labour party and the Green party to demonstrate their support for public ownership of the railways by supporting us. And if Michael Matheson would like to sign our petition I’ll lend him my pen!”

Notes to Desks
Between July 22 and August 18, the franchise recorded a Moving Annual Average PPM score of 88.2 per cent, the target was 92.13 per cent.
