Crossrail Jam Tomorrow Won't Fool Londoners

26 April 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manual Cortes, questioned a new plan from Crossrail to open London’s new east-west railway, which is beset by delays and major funding issues.

Crossrail will be completed two years behind schedule, transport bosses have now admitted.

However, the completion between October 2020 and March 2021 will not include the opening of Bond Street, one of 10 new stations along the new Elizabeth Line, they said.

Reacting to the revised plan Manuel Cortes said:

“What we are hearing today nothing more than the promise of jam tomorrow from Crossrail. Londoners who are footing the bill for this delay will not be fooled – there's nothing concrete here about when full services will commence.

“I stand by my call for a public inquiry into this fiasco which has seen private contractors carry on making millions despite their failure to deliver. We need to learn what went wrong and why and lessons must be learned.

“Be in no doubt there is a long way to go before we see a full service up and running. Crossrail have admitted as much today.”
