Don't miss out on your vote in the Labour leadership election!

15 January 2020

The Labour Party leadership contest is underway and trade union members have until 20th January to make sure you're in the political fund.

Being in the political fund alone is not enough - you must register as an affiliate supporter by 3rd February to get your vote.

Many of our members will be aware that our Party is holding a leadership contest to elect a new leader and deputy leader.

This is an important election as it will elect the Leader of the Opposition and potentially our next Prime Minister. The TSSA is proud to affiliate to our Labour Party and we are encouraging all members to take part in the leadership contest.

To be eligible to vote, members must be both in the political fund and also registered as an affiliate supporter. It costs between 35p and 88p a month to be in TSSA’s political fund, depending on your subscription rate.

It only takes a few minutes to do this, but you must be in the political fund no later than 5pm on Monday 20th January, and you must register as an affiliate supporter by 5pm on Monday 3rd February to be eligible to vote in this election.

You can do it here in just a few clicks:

Become an affiliate supporter:

As an affiliate trade union, the TSSA will be nominating candidates for leader and deputy leader.

Most candidates are addressing the union’s Executive Committee meeting on Thursday 16 January to seek our nomination ahead of the 14 February deadline, after which we’ll know who is on the final ballot paper.

Everyone eligible to vote in the election will receive a ballot once the process opens on 21 February, with the result announced at a special conference on Saturday 4 April.

Our Party introduced a ‘one member one vote’ system, so if you are also a member of our Labour Party you will get your vote through your party membership regardless of whether you sign up as an affiliated supporter or not.

If you are not a member of our Party but wish to use your right to vote in the election as a member our union's political fund, you must register as an affiliated supporter. If in doubt, simply register as you will only get one vote!

Being a part of the political fund lasts beyond an election. The money means we can effectively lobby and campaign in politics on your behalf for positive change in our industries and for you and your loved ones.

Thank you to all our members who are in the political fund, and for those who aren’t, there’s never been a better time to join it.
