East Midlands Trains: April 2011 Pay Settlement

22 June 2011

Members will be aware of this year's ongoing pay discussions, and that TSSA ran a referendum of its members in order to establish their views on the two available options. The outcome of this referendum was a preference for the option of 3% on basic salaries.

Members will be aware of this year’s ongoing pay discussions, and that TSSA ran a referendum of its members in order to establish their views on the two available options. The outcome of this referendum was a preference for the option of 3% on basic salaries.

As these are joint discussions that include RMT, it was important for us to consider their position before formulating a response to the Company. RMT’s position was to explore if progress could be made in respect of an improved offer, so a further meeting was held and a counter proposal was put to the company. This included the request for an additional annual leave day. The company responded, saying that it could not accept the counter proposal and that the only option now on the table was the 3% on basic pay. This of course was the preferred option in the TSSA members’ referendum.

I can now confirm that the joint Union’s position is that we have accepted the 3% pay increase for staff with an anniversary pay review date of 1st April 2011, and that the increase and any back-pay will be paid in the July 8th payroll.

I would like to thank all those members who took the time to respond to the pay referendum and supported the efforts of the negotiating team. This situation highlights yet again the importance of union membership. The greater our membership density, the stronger our bargaining position within the company becomes.
