Fair pay for Network Rail bands 1-4

10 July 2014

Thank you for supporting your reps as more than 90% of you voted to reject the company's derisory pay offer.

A similar number of you have also told us that you wish to balloted for industrial action short of strike - with almost 60% saying that we should also ballot for strike action. Consequently, I have today written to Mark Carne seeking urgent talks to resolve this dispute - you can see the letter below.

We very much hope that given your strong response, the Company will now see sense and agree to further talks so that we can amicably resolve this dispute and an industrial action ballot will not become necessary.

Dear Mark

Re: Bands 1-4 Pay Offer

As you may be aware we have conducted a referendum on the company’s final pay offer for Bands 1-4 employees.  Over 90% of our members have rejected it and have also given us a mandate for an industrial action ballot.  In light of this, we are seeking urgent talks with Network Rail to resolve this dispute.

Could you please indicate by no later than Monday 21st July 2014 whether the company will agree to hold further negotiations with TSSA on this matter.  We remain hopeful that jointly we can reach an amicable resolution to this dispute.

However, if you fail to respond positively to our proposal by the above deadline we will be left with no option but to proceed to ballot our members for industrial action.  I very much hope that this will not become necessary and look forward to receiving a positive response to our proposal.

Yours sincerely

Manuel Cortes
General Secretary
