Fall in Public Trust for ScotRail must signal end of the line for privatisation

6 June 2019

TSSA Leader, Manuel Cortes, responded today to a report by Transport Focus showing public trust in ScotRail has fallen seven percent, linked to passenger dissatisfaction over punctuality and reliability.

The independent watchdog, analysed passengers' opinions between spring 2017 and autumn 2018.

Cortes said “The report shows that “doing what is supposed to be done” – getting people where they want to go, safely, and on time – is crucial in building passenger trust. That’s exactly where Abellio are failing.

“Now passengers have given private train operators like Abellio an overwhelming vote of no-confidence with these findings.

“Sadly, Transport Secretary Michael Matheson is likely to ignore this report. He’d rather listen to Abellio’s hot air than do anything to tackle the root cause of the problem – the failed franchise model.

“Matheson should be sent packing along with the rest of the SNP, wedded as they are to the Tories’ Frankenstein privatisation experiment. They have created a monster.”
