First Great Western: Management Divisional Council and Local representative elections

26 January 2015

We would like to thank all of the current representatives for their hard work and dedication over the last three years to protect membersÂ’ interests, to seek to improve terms and conditions and increase the strength of TSSA. As the three year terms of office are due to expire this year we are now seeking nominations for Management Divisional Council and Local representatives.

Your union needs you now more than ever

We strongly refute the Company’s recent assertion that our representatives do not represent the views of the staff and therefore urge any of our members to take on this rewarding and fulfilling role. Rest assured that this is a role which is valued very highly by TSSA and as such we will ensure that you are provided with all of the tools necessary to represent your members to the best of your ability including comprehensive training, support and development.

As we have publicly stated a number of times we would like to resolve the current employment relations issues in an amicable and professional manner through the means of meaningful dialogue which ACAS offered to assist with. Unfortunately this has been rejected so far therefore we are considering all and any means to encourage the Company to reconsider their decision. In order to do this we need the active support from our members on the ground. For this reason it is imperative that we fill as many of the representative seats as possible.

What would I be expected to do?

As a local representative your key responsibility will be to canvass your members and seek to resolve their issues with senior management at this level. If for whatever reason the issues remain unresolved or are identified as a collective issue affecting more than one manager then it is important that this is shared with the Divisional Council representatives so that these items can be raised at the next Divisional Council meeting. Divisional Council currently meetings take place once a quarter and are chaired on the Company’s side by Ben Rule.
