There are opportunities to become active in your union. TSSA Reps fulfil a vital role in our structures ensuring that TSSA is effective on the ground representing and protecting members’ interests. There are vacancies (details below) across the company for both Local Reps and TSSA Health & Safety at Work Reps.

TSSA will provide training and support and TSSA Reps are entitled to reasonable paid release from duty to carry out their role and receive training.

TSSA has recently introduced a new Branch structure in Scotland for members employed in train operating companies that create opportunities to become active and help build TSSA in Scotland.

If you are interested in becoming active any of the roles below as a TSSA Local Rep or Health & Safety at Work Rep or getting involved in building your TSSA Branch please contact Tom Kennedy on 07711 102950 or email: kennedyt@tssa.org.uk

  • Clerical Grades (Company Wide –1 Seat)
  • Senior Management/Management Staff/ ScotRail Ops Manager Company wide – (Company Wide -1 TSSA Seat)
  • Engineering Managers (Company Wide – 1 x TSSA Seat)

The term of office for these casual vacancies expires on 31 December 2012.

Nominations are invited and should reach this office no later than Wednesday 29 June 2011. To be eligible for nomination a candidate must:

  • have six months’ service with First ScotRail Railways Ltd
  • be a member of TSSA
  • work in the relevant Grade Group.

For a nomination form, please contact me or the TSSA Helpdesk (0800 3282673). The nomination form should be signed or a letter of acceptance of nomination should be submitted by the nominee. The signature of each nominee implies that if elected/appointed to the Company Council as an official TSSA candidate, he/she will act in line with Association policy i.e. in accordance with Annual Conference decisions or in the absence of such decisions, in accordance with the decisions of the Executive Committee.

In the event of more than one nomination being received for any of the above seats, it will be necessary to conduct an individual ballot among TSSA members within the relevant Grade Group.

3. Team Managers: On Call Arrangements and Local Representation

TSSA reps have visited the main locations and met with Team Managers regarding the On Call arrangements. A meeting is to take place with the company to discuss this important issue for Team Managers. Prior to joint discussions with Management, TSSA Company Council Reps intend to meet jointly with appropriate local representatives from across the company.

Currently there remain vacancies for LLC reps for Team Managers and I would encourage members to ensure that any local vacancies are filled. Bear in mind that On Call arrangements are negotiable and therefore subject to local agreement between Management and Local Reps. It is therefore vital that we have TSSA Local Reps in place to protect the interests and represent the views of members affected by any proposed changes to On Call.

I would also take this opportunity to invite members who have not yet done so to let us have your views regarding On Call. The Company Council Reps are:

  • Stephen Lawrence (0798 9506163)
  • Alex Stevenson (0786 0936834).

Further information may also be sent to Tom Kennedy.
