Freightliner Intermodal Management Pay Ballot for Industrial Action

15 September 2011

This is to inform our members that we have issued notice yesterday (14th September) to the company of our intention to ballot members giving the necessary seven days notice.

We have notified them that a trade dispute exists between TSSA and Freightliner Intermodal. This concerns our members within the management grade pay bargaining machinery and relates to the issues of fair pay and conditions of service, and the failure of Freightliner to commit to deal effectively with the issue of excess unpaid overtime. Specifically this is on the basis of the following points:

  • Our members do not accept a further deterioration in pay differentials in relation to non management staff and this offer is less than that afforded to all other grades for this year
  • This offer devalues the roles of Managers even further and increases already low morale
  • That in previous years we had informed the company that TSSA would NOT accept any further banded deals
  • That in our view the response given to the issue of Management overtime is not acceptable which has been raised through various meetings through the collective bargaining procedure

(Please note that this dispute does not relate to any of our members in Freightliner Heavy Haul nor other parts of the Freightliner Group)

Therefore a ballot will commence of all Freightliner Intermodal Management TSSA members next week.

Ballot papers will be posted to member’s home addresses from next Thursday 22nd September and will need to be returned no later than 12.00hrs on Monday 10th October 2011. Notification of the result to the company and members will follow immediately after the ballot closes.

Your reps recommend that you Vote YES to the question "ARE YOU PREPARED TO TAKE PART IN INDUSTRIAL ACTION CONSISTING OF A STRIKE?" And YES to "ARE YOU PREPARED TO TAKE PART IN INDUSTRIAL ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE?"

If you do not receive a ballot paper before Wednesday 21st September please contact the TSSA helpdesk immediately on 0800 328 2673 so we can issue a replacement paper. If the paper you receive is spoilt please also let us know.

Please also speak to non-members regarding the current unacceptable position with the pay offer and encourage them to join TSSA. If they join TSSA then they can participate in any action that is taken following the ballot.

Your reps will be meeting in the final week of the ballot to plan ahead for potential action, therefore please speak to your reps regarding any issues or questions that you have.

We can only seek fair pay for our members with a strong collective response to deliver a clear message to the company that Managers deserve a fair deal.

We will keep you updated on all developments.TSSA – "It’s time for fair pay"
