Freightliner Intermodal Management Pay Dispute

12 September 2011

Further to the referendum of our Management Grade members we have been given a clear remit to reject the offer and prepare for an industrial action ballot.

We have written to the company and made it clear that we are open to discussion as part of the avoidance of dispute process. We are also willing to consider a revised offer (if they are willing to propose a pay deal in line with the position we put forward at the pay meeting)

Unless we receive a commitment from the company to the above effect we will begin to prepare a ballot and give the required seven days notice of our intention to do so. This we anticipate would allow a ballot to commence in around two weeks time.

Ahead of planning for an industrial action ballot we need to gauge your views on what action you are willing to take to secure an improved deal. Whether that is strike action or action short of a strike such as a refusal to work overtime so we can plan ahead of any yes vote.

I would ask that you do this as a matter of urgency either direct to your TSSA Management rep or direct to myself via email to

You may also have seen that we have sent out a membership update request for all Management Grades we have on the TSSA membership system. Please make sure you return these to us if you have any corrections to the information we hold, particularly with regard to grade, workplace and home address so we have the correct information in order to hold a lawful ballot. Also if you know of anyone who has been missed out please let us know.

Please also speak to non-members regarding the current unacceptable position with the pay offer and encourage them to join TSSA. We can only seek fair pay for our members with a strong collective response to deliver a clear message to the company that Managers deserve a fair deal.

We will keep you updated on all developments.
