22 December 2010

TSSA members will be pleased to have received the second part of their two year pay award which saw a 5.2% increase to their salary. The TSSA believes that this a good reason for members to draw to the attention of their colleagues who are non-members the benefit of being a member of a trade union such as the TSSA.

The TSSA is fundamentally committed to organising in the workplace and as a such we are determined that our members will be supported by TSSA lay reps and contacts that work along side them in the various work locations on South West Trains. As a result we are asking for nominations in some of our lay roles.

TSSA Company Council

The TSSA is seeking nomination for the three positions for the Company Council and the three positions also on the TSSA Company Committee.

The role of Company Councillor encompasses organising TSSA members in the workplace, negotiating and consulting with SWT at company level on behalf of TSSA members, assisting Local Representatives with issues and representing TSSA members in disciplines and grievances. Those on the committee would encompass the above as well but not always be required to meet SWT on company issues. Training will be provided by the TSSA to allow you to fulfill the role. A nomination form has been circulated to members, which needs to be returned to this office by no later than first post on Friday 14th January 2011, using the free post on the form.

Local Representatives are required in the Portsmouth and Woking Area Managers area, nomination forms are available from the SWT HR at Southampton. Again training will be provided by the TSSA for those who wish to do the role, anyone wishing for information on the role please contact me on]

TSSA workplace and branch contacts are required throughout the SWT geographical area. If you are interested please contact me on the above E-mail address. The role would communicate with our members on TSSA campaigns and disperse TSSA literature in the workplace. This role would not be too arduous but an essential cog in the TSSA reaching our membership employed by SWT. For example we have a vacancy between Woking and Esher stations. Please come forward to help TSSA enhance our profile in the workplace and which in turn can lead to improved working life for our members.
