TSSA's Ghost Train visits Hackney Wick

17 July 2013

Campaign activists from TSSA and public transport network Together for Transport, met at the early hours to speak to Hackney Wick passengers in East London about the threats to ticket offices around the country.

They were alerting passengers to the fact that the Government, through the McNulty report, has given the green light to Train Operating Companies to reduce staffing at stations across the UK, despite the needs of the local community.

London Overground, who has run the line since 2007, had already committed to not implementing the McNulty recommendations. However last month confirmed plans to remove guards off of London Overground trains.

One passenger was shocked to hear about the cuts: “the government is supposed to care about more jobs, not cut the jobs. People need jobs and friendly staff; not machines”.

The Ghost Train is touring the country visiting stations on the government’s hit list. Would you like it to visit you? Go to to have the Ghost Train visit a station near you.
