Govia Thameslink Railway Proposed Station Hosts Update

19 December 2016

The TSSA Company Councillors have met with their respective Retail Groups to discuss the trial of the Station Host concept.

As you will be aware, we went into dispute over the prosed implementation of the scheme and at the meeting to resolve the dispute, we agreed that there would be some trials at locations on the Southern area and the Great Northern/Thameslink areas. There were agreed parameters around those trials which included them being worked by volunteers, risk assessments, operational factors and rosters. There was also a consensus that we would have an agreed assessment of the trial to determine whether it was a success or a failure and that this would be done by an independent agency that specialises in doing surveys.

In both areas much of the work has been done and there are going to be trials at City Thameslink, Cricklewood, Enfield Chase, and Sandy on Thameslink/Great Northern and at Battersea Park, Balham, Chichester and Peckham Rye on the Southern area. The TSSA wants to see this trial worked fully to assess whether the proposal is a workable in the station environment. It may be that the whole proposal works in some locations and not all, it maybe that part of the new proposed working practices work and not all. We will only know this if there is a realistic and meaningful trial over a period of time.

Your union will update you as the trial progresses as we hope to have interim meetings with the company on this matter and the Company Councillors will be visiting most locations over this period collating the views of those involved in the trials and learning first hand how it is working.
