Govia Thameslink Railway Station Hosting Ballot

8 August 2016

Our union is balloting our members in ticket offices on strike action over the Station Host proposals-this is in line with other unions.

Your local union reps and organisers have travelled up and down the line listening to how you feel about the Station Host proposals.

The main issues are:

Safety          The overwhelming opinion was that being out of a secure ticket office handling money or even perceived to have money is dangerous to our members and puts them at risk.

Customers     How do you coordinate, prioritise and offer the best service when you are surround by passengers all demanding your time at once?

Shifts            Concerns around shift patterns and potential 11 hour shifts.

We cannot see how an adequate risk assessment can be carried out prior to any change. However, we cannot allow our members to be put at risk prior to a proper assessment.

Alongside the main issues people spoke of:

  • Lack of consultation or information from management.
  • What happens when several things happen at once? Passenger stuck in gateline, customer refund, an advanced ticket sale and a delayed train - all increasing the risk of mistakes.
  • The number of proposed employees to staff the station safely and effectively.

It is important that you take part in the ballot and make sure that you check that your contact details are correct either through My TSSA ( or by calling the helpdesk on 0800 328 2673.

Our union will continue to visit stations and discuss any issues that you have.
