Graham Stone remembered

12 May 2015

It is with great sadness that we wish to inform members of the sudden death of Graham Stone of TSSA's London South East & Sussex branch and former member of our Croydon branch.

Graham was a TSSA Executive Committee member, 1981-87 and a holder of the TSSA Gold Medallion. He joined the Association in November 1953 and was a thus a member for 61 years.

Graham served the Association well at all levels, indeed he was still a Branch Officer at the time of his death and was learning new technology to enable him to do Branch returns and allow him to continue. Similarly, as a Delegate to Divisional Council, he had held the position of Chairman and other posts over many years. He was also active in the wider trade union and labour movement, including his local Trades Council.

Graham worked for British Rail for over 40 years until his retirement, having spent his last 20 years in the Area Manager's Office at London Bridge. Graham will be missed by all his many friends and former colleagues. I knew his as a friend, fellow EC member and also from working closely with him during my time as the Southern Region Divisional Officer.

On the social side, Graham enjoyed his pint, beer festivals, conversation and his cricket, as member of Surrey County Cricket Club.

RIP Graham, you will be missed.

As remembered by Dennis Cameron, former Assistant General Secretary
