Honour Network Rail staff not Carne

8 June 2018

Responding to news that outgoing Network Rail chief, Mark Carne is to receive a CBE from the Queen for "services to the rail industry"

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said:
"I hope in his acceptance speech, Mark pays tribute to the long-suffering men and women who work at Network Rail whose working lives are being strained to breaking point by Mark's embrace of the Tory cuts which have left our network understaffed and so under-resourced, that it is now in collapse with trains cancelled and millions of passengers unable to get to or from work.

"Coming on the week of the biggest ever national rail crisis in British peace time history, Mark's CBE looks a little like rewarding the captain of the Titanic for jumping ship. Frustrated passengers will see no honour in that at all."
