Iarnrod Eireann Pay Talks

18 May 2016

We have concluded talks at the workplace relations commission over our concern of lack of movement on the issue of Pay and other Industrial Relations issues.

We had written to the company earlier in the year on reflection of the fast changing industrial relations environment, in particular that we were engaged in a pay talk’s process in both Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann and we felt that this process should be extended to our members in Iarnrod Eireann. We were encouraged by the fact that Iarnrod Eireann was reporting increased passenger numbers and revenue.

We held two meetings with Iarnrod Eireann under the auspices of the workplace relations commission. We requested that Iarnrod Eireann cease immediately the foregoing of gross pay element of the cost containment agreement. This we believed was a crucial first step to help create the necessary good will to explore across the board pay rises and to deal with other issues around your terms and conditions and workloads.

Unfortunately this reasonable request was not accepted by the company. The matter of forgoing of gross pay has now been referred to the Labour court for investigation and recommendation.

We believe that it is only right and proper that we move forward and we get some recognition of the sacrifices you have made and the contributions you have made to ensure the safe and efficient running train service during the past difficult years.

We will keep members updated of any further developments.
