Interrail U-Turn Victory Over Small Mindedness

8 August 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has welcomed the reversal of a decision to end the UK's membership of the Interrail scheme describing the move as a "victory for common sense over small mindedness."

A day after announcing the Interrail and Eurail passes would from 2020 no longer apply to UK train journeys the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) has performed an abrupt about turn.

The RDG, which represents UK train operators, said the change of heart was down to the reaction to their plans.

Manuel Cortes said: “This is a massive victory for rail passengers and for common sense and over small minded thinking which would have prevented future generations being able to enjoy affordable, low carbon travel around Europe.

“What now needs to go now is the RDG which is nothing more than a cosy cartel of privateers who collude to bleed rail passengers dry at any and every opportunity.

“I suspect that the plans to scarp Interrail were too much even for the Little Englander Tory Brexiteers. Thankfully young people will still be able explore their continent. Bon Voyage!”
