TSSA today (Tuesday) welcomed Shane Ross's announcement of a 1billion euro investment into Iarnród Éireann but warned Ireland's railways lag behind those of Europe.
TSSA General Secretary said “Ireland’s railways are way behind most of Europe. Ireland’s taxpayers and passengers deserve better.
“At the very least Iarnród Éireann’s mainline from Dublin to Cork and Dublin to Belfast should be electrified and linked up so there can be a seamless journey from Belfast to Cork. This would also help combat climate change by reducing emissions, and with faster speeds and greater capacity, it would get people off the roads and onto rail.”
