London Midland: Conductor Managers suspension of industrial action

15 December 2011

Significant movement from the company gives chance for resolution.

Several meetings have taken place between your negotiating team and the Company to try to reach a resolution to your dispute. We now feel that there has been significant movement from the Company on the issue of pay, so we have therefore agreed to suspend all industrial action with immediate effect to allow further productive talks to take place.

As you know the Company's original pay offer was a one-year deal at 3.5%. We have now moved to a three-year deal which aims to maintain cash differentials between your salaries and those of the staff you manage. There is also an additional payment of 0.5% for year-one, subject to us reaching an agreement on a new job description, and an additional 1 days annual leave for ex-Silverlink Conductor Managers to equalise with ex-Central Trains Conductor Managers. There is also a serious commitment to explore the possibility of reducing your working week to 36 hours to match the Conductors.

A further meeting is scheduled for 9th January 2012. Following that meeting we are aiming to be in a position whereby we shall present you with a referendum to have your say in whether you accept or reject the offer the Company has made.

If talks break down at that meeting or if there are any detrimental changes to the principal offer, we shall withdraw from negotiations and continue with our dispute and industrial action.
I'm sure most of you are aware that your staff rep, Colin Mytton, has had a family bereavement today and has therefore been absent from the latest meeting, hence why another meeting is scheduled for early January.

If you require any further information on the contents of this circular please contact your TSSA rep, Colin Mytton or myself in the first instance. Please also discuss the contents of this circular with your colleagues, and encourage any non-members to join. The more members we have, the stronger our negotiating position becomes.
