London Midland: Driver Manager and Conductor Manager industrial action update

5 December 2011

Details of industrial action being taken between 9th December 2011 and 9th January 2012.

Following the success of the recent ballot, a clear mandate has been reached and agreed by both groups of staff to take industrial action, for both action short of a strike and strike action.

The strike action will be discontinuous and will take place on the dates set out below:

  • From 1701 hours on Friday 9th December 2011 to 0859 hours on Monday 12th December 2011
  • From 1701 hours on Friday 16th December 2011 to 0859 hours on Monday 19th December 2011
  • From 1701 hours on Friday 23rd December 2011 to 0859 hours on Tuesday 27th December 2011
  • From 1701 hours on Friday 30th December 2011 to 0859 hours on Monday 2nd January 2012
  • From 1701 hours on Friday 6th January 2012 to 0859 hours on Monday 9th January 2012

The action short of strike action will be continuous and will take place from 0859 hours on Friday 9th December 2011, and will consist of the following:

  • Overtime ban – to work no more than 37 hours in any week between the hours of 0900 - 1700 Monday to Friday.

Work to rule – all applicable rules and safety procedures will be strictly adhered to.

Withdrawal of goodwill – there will be no cover of vacancies or higher grade duties, no carrying out of non core activities (posting roster mark-ups, Bugle interaction, Uniform issues, assisting and participating in interviews of new staff, location specific responsibilities; acting as fire precaution officers, premises health & safety, Yards & sidings).

ONLY TSSA members within the grades of Driver Managers and Conductor Managers are eligible to participate in the industrial action and will therefore automatically have legal protection against unfair dismissal, victimisation and harassment, so long as they abide strictly to the above action. It is absolutely crucial that other than what is detailed above you work normally.

If you require any further information on the contents of this circular please contact your staff reps, Steve Hewitt and Colin Mytton in the first instance.
