TSSA are currently undertaking a survey, of which all London Midland employees are encouraged to take part in. This is for us to gain a better understanding of your working conditions, working hours and issues such health & safety.

We believe that a very high number of you work additional hours each and every week, most of those unpaid, but more worryingly; it seems this is not being monitored by London Midland nor does it appear that they have been proactive in managing this very important issue.

Numerous members have contacted us with concerns about feeling stressed at work and the effect this is having on their health. Your employer has a duty of care towards you and your working conditions including, hours, workload, work-life balance and any work related sickness, including stress related conditions.

London Midland has on numerous occasions said “by being a manager it is expected of you to work additional unpaid hours”. This is clearly unacceptable! Each and every one of you has a contract of employment and that contract clearly states the number of hours you are contracted to work. You must remember that your salary reflects the hours you are employed to do!

Working additional hours, not only impacts on you physically, mentally and emotionally but financially too. The more hours you work for free (unpaid overtime) the more you water-down your hourly rates and ultimately your worth and value within the business.

TSSA want to be able to take the results of the survey, which will be completely confidential, to London Midland and force them into acknowledging this is a real problem and force them into working with us and your staff reps to address this problem once and for all.

Please help us to help you by completing the enclosed survey. All personal information will be treated in complete confidence and all surveys are returned to TSSA, so London Midland will never see them, only the analysed results will be given to the company.

If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, please speak to your staff reps.
