London Underground talks latest

24 January 2017

Statement following a meeting of senior TSSA officials early this morning (Tuesday) to agree the next steps in the dispute with London Underground about understaffing and deficiencies in safety procedures on the Tube.

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said:

"Our negotiating team will continue engaging in ACAS talks with London Underground (LU) for the reminder of this week. Frankly, this dispute has been going on for far too long and our members patience is running wafer thin. Due to chronic staff shortages, they have been exposed to a spike in both verbal and physical abuse from irate passengers which has no place in our society never mind the workplace".

"We will do all we can to secure a deal by the end of this week. However, the Mayor, TfL and LU must be aware that failure to do so, will sadly lead to more strikes in the immediate future. Let's hope common sense prevails and a deal can be reached that makes our Tube safe once again for both passengers and staff".

TSSA talks with LU were adjourned last night and will resume tomorrow morning (Wednesday 25th January).
